Can I take my VoltBike on a plane?

All e-bike batteries are classified as dangerous goods because they exceed 300 watt-hours (WH), while most airlines have a limit of 100 WH.

Most airlines do not allow batteries of this size for recreational use; however, similar-sized batteries in mobility scooters for individuals with reduced mobility may be permitted with prior airline approval.

If you need to travel with your battery, it’s often easier to ship it separately via FedEx or potentially by ocean freight.

To calculate watt-hours (WH), multiply volts (V) by amp hours (AH):

  • Urban: 36V x 13AH = 468 WH
  • Mariner: 48V x 14.5AH = 696 WH
  • Yukon: 48V x 16AH = 768 WH
  • Elegant, Enduro & Bravo: 48V x 12.8AH = 614.4 WH
