Replacing nylon gears on a Bafang hub motor

VoltBike electric bikes featuring rear hub motors are equipped with Bafang motors. These motors utilize planetary gears to transfer motion from the motor to the rear wheel axle.

If you detect a persistent grinding noise emanating from the rear hub, it could be a sign that the motor gears require replacement.

This grinding noise is typically more pronounced during acceleration from a dead stop or when applying direct motor power, signaling potential wear on the planetary gears. While this issue is relatively uncommon, it may arise, typically after the first year of ownership.

The provided video demonstrates how to access the motor and replace the gears.

VoltBike offers two sizes of planetary gears for replacement, which can be ordered through the provided link.

The video below shows how to detach gears from motor Bafang.
