Does cold weather affect my Li-ion battery

Cold weather affects performance for all Li-ion batteries regardless of brand or application. You may experience a decrease in range of your bike of up to 50% when you ride at -1 C or lower. Even though all VoltBike batteries are encapsulated in a metal shield, it's still not enough to protect the cells from the cold weather.

If you plan to ride mostly in the winter, then we would recommend insulating the battery with thin foam material or something similar. You can fabricate something which could fit your battery shape. Insulating your battery could increase range significantly.

The insulation jacket below is reported in one of the German forums for electric bikes. It's made from 5mm neoprene with velcro fastenings and it would great for any electric bike.
