How can I maintain my external magnet cadence sensor?

This article applies to VoltBike electric bike models equipped with external cadence sensors. These include the VoltBike Yukon, Yukon V2, Elegant, Bravo, Outback, Kodiak, Mariner, Urban, and Trio models.

Proper maintenance ensures your cadence sensor works efficiently and has a long lifespan. Here's how you can maintain your magnet cadence sensor:

Clean Regularly:

Keep the sensor clean: Dirt, dust, and grease can affect the sensor’s ability to detect the magnet. Wipe both the sensor and magnet with a soft, damp cloth regularly.
Avoid harsh chemicals: Use mild soap and water if necessary. Avoid using abrasive materials or harsh cleaning agents that can damage the sensor.

Check Magnet and Sensor Alignment:

Proper magnet placement: Ensure the magnet is securely attached to the pedal or crank arm and aligned correctly with the sensor. The sensor should be positioned at the right distance from the magnet, (2mm). If the magnet is too far or too close, the sensor may fail to detect it properly.
Ensure steady attachment: Over time, vibrations from riding may loosen the magnet. Check that the magnet is still tightly secured to avoid misalignment.

Inspect for Damage:

Check for physical damage: Periodically inspect both the sensor and the magnet for signs of wear, cracks, or damage. If either is damaged, it could cause unreliable readings.
Inspect wiring:  check the wiring for any wear or fraying that could result in connectivity issues.
