Hydraulic lever position - set screw adjustment
For Voltbike models:
With Tektro hydraulic brakes
Tools required:
2mm hex key
Non-permanent thread locker (i.e. blue Loctite 242)
If your Voltbike has hydraulic brakes/ levers there is the option to adjust the brake lever reach to fit various hand sizes and change the feel of the braking action. On occasion, the adjustment set screw may back out resulting in a potential loss of braking power.
Do not ride your bike if the brake system is not functioning correctly!
Follow steps 1-5 to change the lever reach position and ensure proper function of the braking system:
1. Pull the brake lever to determine the current brake action and the distance from the handlebar. Release the lever.
2. Carefully use a 2mm hex key to turn the brake lever set screw counterclockwise to expose 3-4 threads of the set screw. This will move the lever closer to the handlebar and may inhibit braking power.
3. Apply a small amount of non-permanent thread locker on the threads of the set screw.
4. Use the 2mm hex to carefully turn the set screw clockwise to extend the lever reach away form the handlebar, and ensure a more positive braking function that will not bottom out.
5. Test the braking action of the lever. If adjusting the set screw does not improve braking performance, check the brake pad for wear, or the mineral oil level of the system. Brake pads should be replaced which the resin surface is 0.5mm or less.
