VoltBike Preventative Maintenance Tips

VoltBike Preventative Maintenance Tips

Regular checks keeps your VoltBike running well when your need it. Here are some basic tips on maintenace. A more detailed guide to our bikes can be found here.

Service Manual

Brake Pads

Inspect every 500-1,000 km (sooner if wet/hilly).

  • Check: Thickness <1mm? Grinding/squeaking noises? Spongy or slow stopping?
  • Replace: Use Allen keys/pliers; remove wheel if needed, swap pads, adjust caliper, bed in with gentle stops. For hydraulic brakes, bleed system if performance drops—see manual.

Chain Care

Clean/lube every 200-300 km or after rain.

  • Clean: Degreaser + brush/tool, scrub grime, rinse, dry fully; inspect for rust or stiff links.
  • Lube: Apply bike-specific lube (wet for rain, dry for dust), wipe excess; rotate pedals for even spread.
  • Mid-drive models: Check proper tension to prevent slippage. Replace if stretched, rusted, or damaged links appear.

Tire Replacement

Check weekly for pressure (match sidewall PSI) and damage.

  • Inspect: Look for punctures, cuts, embedded debris, uneven wear, or sidewall cracks/dry rot.
  • Signs to replace: Tread worn flat or below 1-2 mm (center often wears first on e-bikes); frequent flats; visible casing threads; cracks on sidewalls; age over 5 years (even if low use); loss of grip/handling.
  • E-bike note: Extra weight/speed means faster wear—rough trails or city use shorten life (often 2,000-5,000 km depending on conditions).
  • Pro tip: Maintain your tire pressure to avoid pinch flats and promote even wear.

Other Quick Checks

  • Battery: Store cool & dry at 50-80% when not in use.; inspect terminals for corrosion
  • Displays/Controllers/Throttles: Wipe clean, check connections for looseness.
  • Lights: Test regularly; replace if dim or not working.
