Best Electric Trikes - Comparison

Canada's Best Electric Trikes: The VoltBike Trio vs Competition

We at VoltBike are flattered to see that the electric trike segment is growing, and that some interesting new competitors are getting into this growing market of electric trikes. Now more than ever, people are looking for eTrikes to get out and about and to get some exercise. The stability and easy of mounting are some key features we've always focused on, and will continue as we always have to make the Trio the best daily rider eTrike in Canada.

What makes the Trio so great?

VoltBike has been offering electric tricycle for a number of years now, and unlike most of our competition, we've had a few generations of the Trio which have continued improving with each model that comes out.

Who are our most notable competitors?

As the popularity of these eTrikes have grown, the Trio now also has some competition. You'll see many electric trikes that look like ours, and some that are radically different. Here are a few of the other trikes out there.

A Quick Comparison Chart:

Model Price Battery Brakes Control Pad Features
VoltBike Trio $2,599 20ah (Samsung cells) Hydraulic Dual Disc Rear Brake Color 9" LCD screen with USB Simple to assemble, perfect for everyday riding. Lots of features, great value with after-sales support!
Envo Flex $3,429 15ah (Option for dual battery) Hydraulic Single Disc Rear Brake Color 4" Built to handle cargo, 400lb payload capacity. Foldable. Large standard front headlight.
Mooncool TK1 $2299 14.5Ah Hydraulic Single Disc Rear Brake Simple Black/White
Pedego Fat Tire Trike $4,595 10.5ah(52V) Hydraulic Single Disc Rear Brake Color 4" Large plastic storage bin. 52V battery system. Great brakes!

Envo Flex Trike:

This fat tire trike has some similarities to ours, with the 20x3" semi-fat tires all around, the rear cargo basket and available front rack. It's also got similar handlebars, and a really cool looking front light.

Envo Flex Tricycle

This model also folds up as well, but frankly, who wants to lift an 80lb folded up trike? Our VoltBike Trio's front handlebars fold down, allowing it to load into a trailer or into the back of a truck using the walk-mode feature.

Currently priced at about $3,000 with a 15 amp hour battery. VoltBike wins on both price (Trio is $2,599) and battery range (Trio has 17.5ah).

Pedego Fat Tire Trike:

Another bike that's similar to the Trio. The Pedego Electric Fat Tire Trike. This bike operates on a 52V system which is interesting, as all the others are 48V. The 52V 10ah battery comes standard with this bike, with an optional secondary battery available.

Pedego Electric Trike

It's also powered by a hub motor with 750W of power and 75nm of torque, but their motor power output peaks well above the Trio's motor. So this bike is more powerful than the Trio, but with a little less torque. The brakes are also bigger than the Trio with a 203mm, compared to the 180mm brakes on the Trio. The Pedego also has dual-piston brake calipers.

The rear cargo area is a plastic bucket, which is also unique, but offers less storage than the open rear cargo area our trike has. Other features include a bright standard headlight and turning signals. Overall a very interesting Trike.

Now for the bad news. It's pricey. There are some superior features to the Trio that are on this Pedego Trike, but at nearly double the price, it doesn't come cheap. You could buy a Trio, a second battery, upgraded headlight and turn signals and still have some money left over.

Mooncool TK1 Folding Electric Trike:

This eTrike has just recently come onto our radar. It's being very aggressively marketed right now, and so we're starting to see it in ads and in comparison to the VoltBike Trio. Rest assured, we've got this one beat. It does have some "cool" features though!

Mooncool TK1 Electric Tricycle

Mooncool is relatively new company (founded in 2021) based in the USA. The company does not have physical presence, so it's uncertain where is the exact location. However they advertise 24/7 phone support and they recently started shipping to Canadian consumers.

The Mooncool TK1 trike is a folding model as well, and has the motor at the rear of the trike, instead of at the front like the previous examples, as well as ours. We like our VoltBike Trio's motor out front where the weight can be appreciated when climbing steep hills. The front wheel motor gives the Trio an all-wheel-drive capability, with human power driving the rear wheels and the electric motor powering the front wheel. Additionally, front wheel motors are simpler to maintain, as the front wheel can be removed much more easily than the entire rear axle.

Our VoltBike Trio is also way easier to assemble, just unbox, adjust the handlebars, and off you go. The Mooncool however requires you to follow an instructional video to put it together. Our team of mechanics build and tune the bike before if goes into the box, with all 3 wheels attached.

If you're looking for a slightly cheaper, less impressive version of the Trio, the Mooncool is your trike. VoltBike specializes in after-sale support, and part availability, something a drop-shipping company like Mooncool is lacking.
